There are basically Four villages on the peninsula: tiny Maya Beach (more an area than a town), the Garifuna settlement of Seine Bight, Surfside and Placencia Village,  the largest of which is Placencia Village. We cater to Wildlife Scenery, Retreats, Lagoon Tours & Fishing and Educational Retreat.

The Placencia Lagoon lies behind the Placencia peninsula. It is a narrow, 24-km long estuary that is mainly shallow, (1-2 meters), with a few deeper holes and channels.

Its width and area are somewhat variable because of enormous marshy wetlands that blanket most of the inland coast. Much of the coast is lined with mangroves whose roots are encrusted with a rich variety of sessile life - shellfish, sponges, anemones, and algae and provide shelter for juveniles of many commercial species of fish.

The lagoon is home to remarkable biodiversity including  several endangered and magnet species like the Jabiru  Stork, Morelet's crocodile, American crocodile and West  Indian manatee. Both bottle-nosed and Atlantic spotted dolphins also frequent the Lagoon.

On the peninsular side, the booming tourism industry has brought crowds of visitors  enjoying the sandy beaches and looking for vacation homes.

Take a Tour of the Lagoon, Our Guide will educate you and teach you the History
of Belize's Placencia Lagoon From atop of our Platform which provides you with
an up close view of Nature and it's inhabitants at its best.

The savanna ecosystem on the west coast of the lagoon leads into a dry tropical forest that provides a biological corridor to the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve. However, extensive development is underway on both sides of the Lagoon. Belize is  the only English-speaking country in Central America and the only one without a Pacific coastline.

The Placencia Lagoon has a huge positive impact, with the  Increased the flow
of tourism and revenue to the area. Dorey,  Kayaking, birding,  Water Rafting,
Paddle Boats, Paddle Boards  and manatee watching are all readily available
within the lagoon. The convenience of being able to use the lagoon in all weathers
makes it widely available to every visitor to the area.

Our culture is a Splendid mix of influences and people from Creole, Maya, Garinagu (also known as Garifuna), Mestizo (a mixture of Spanish and Native Americans), Mennonites who are of German descent, with a blend of many other cultures from Chinese to Lebanese.

The Garifuna People live in a chain of Towns and Villages along the eastern coast of Belize,  We have a Very special terrain. It includes mangrove swamps, river valleys, coastal plains, and grassy plains with some pines and palm trees.
Belizean Creoles, AKA Kriols, are Creole descendants of Black African slaves brought to Belize and English by Scottish log cutters, These Individuals were also called Baymen.

The Maya civilization was one of the most dominant indigenous societies of Mesoamerica (a term used to describe Mexico and Central America before the 16th century Spanish conquest). Mayans lived in three separate sub-areas with distinct environmental and cultural differences: the northern Maya lowlands on the Yucatan Peninsula; the southern lowlands in the Peten district of northern Guatemala and adjacent portions of Mexico, Belize and western Honduras; and the southern Maya highlands, in the mountainous region of southern Guatemala.
